Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fit 2 a year and a half after the release of the original Galaxy Fit, and in similar fashion, the 2020 model is a true fitness wristband with a minimal display. Unlike the newly-released Galaxy Watch 3 which is both a stylish timepiece and a fitness tracker, the Galaxy Fit 2 leans a lot more towards the latter description.
Samsung aims the Galaxy Fit 2 at fitness enthusiasts who are looking to buy an activity tracker and don’t want to break the bank. Despite its limited scope, the Galaxy Fit 2 can perform a few minor tasks outside its area of expertise, such as giving users a way to quickly answer messages and emails received on a connected smartphone.
The Galaxy Fit 2 follows the original design formula very closely; in fact it looks nearly identical to the Galaxy Fit. But even though it has a simplistic design, Samsung has improved the formula with a couple of key changes.
Firstly, the entire body of the Galaxy Fit 2 is now made of one piece. The original model had the display module attached to the wristbands with visible creases but this is no longer the case. Secondly, the physical side key has been replaced with an in-display button, leading to a cleaner look. Samsung launched the Galaxy Fit 2 in two colour options: black and red. Both variants have a black back panel. The device weighs 24 grams and measures 46.6 x 18.6 x 11.3mm.
The Galaxy Fit 2 has a 1.1-inch AMOLED colour display with a resolution of 126 by 294 and an integrated touch button. Heart rate sensors are located on the back of the wearable, while the internal components, such as 2 MB of RAM and 32MB of ROM, are wrapped in a 5 ATM waterproof body that’s IP68-rated.
Samsung claims that the Galaxy Fit 2 can function for up to 21 days on a single charge, or up to 14 days if continuous heart rate measurement is enabled. The device is powered by a 159mAh unit and connects via Bluetooth.FreeRTOS (Realtime OS) once again beats at the heart of the Galaxy Fit 2, making it compatible with Android phones running version 5.0 or later and iPhone 7 or later models running iOS 10.0 or newer. Users can receive incoming alerts and have access to a quick reply system for responding to messages and emails.
